ok here is my problem, i found out here at work they have been shredding the paper staples and all, will the worms stay away from the shards or will these hurt, kill the worms? I am thinking against it now but i thought I would ask.

The staples won't be a problem for the worms. They are only concerned with the organics and the staples shouldn't emit anything dangerous to them. The staples, though, will still be in the vermicompost you harvest.

ok, I am mainly into this for the selling of the worms to bait shops, I just wanted to make sure that the staples would not kill the worms.

I realized I have hit pay dirt. I work at a hotel and I will be having MORE than enough shredded cardboard to raise my worms in. I just spent the last hour shredding cardboard from our shipment last week. Other than cardboard though, is there anything else that I need to put in my 30 gal tote for them to live in?

Newspaper, peat and make sure you add some activator microbes- rotting food, castings (if you have some),

How do you shred your cardboard. I have not found a good method yet, just wondering how you do it?
